Mills lecturer gets a piece of $5.7 million grant
Marc Bamuthi Joseph, a lecturer in English and new performing arts director for San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, is one of the first jazz, theater, and dance artists to receive the prestigious Doris Duke Performing Artist Award. In 2011 he was honored with an Alpert Award for his experimental art.

Daphne Phung, MBA ’06, works to toughen penalties for human trafficking
The United Nations estimates there could be 2.4 million victims of human trafficking worldwide. Phung is fighting trafficking by working to get an initiative named the Californians Against Sexual Exploitation Act on the state’s November 2012 ballot.
