Help connect women leaders
Mills is collaborating with other women’s leadership advocates on the Global Women’s Leadership Network (GWLN)’s Brainstorm Challenge, an initiative to gather ideas on how to connect women’s groups around the globe. GWLN seeks to advance the leadership capacity of women and girls by strengthening their network of resources.

An influential woman
Alecia A. DeCoudreaux was honored as one of 2013’s Most Influential Women in Bay Area Business by the San Francisco Business Times. In her 30-year career, she has served as women’s advocate, corporate executive, fundraiser, community volunteer, and—since 2011—Mills’ president.

Art Museum aids student projects
Women of the West & A World At War showcases objects curated by Mills history students for research projects on women’s changing roles. On view through September 1, the collection represents an initiative to “integrate the resources of the [Mills College] Art Museum into the humanities curriculum on campus,” as explained by Director Stephanie Hanor in an Examiner.com interview.

Dare we blush? Mills ranks 20th in Grateful Graduates Index
Forbes.com has published a “Grateful Graduates Index” that uses the amount of private giving per student as an indicator of the success of a college’s alumni and their gratitude towards their alma mater. Gifts from grateful parents count in the totals, too. In this index, Mills ranks 20th in the nation.

Mills dean calls for men to “lean in”
In an op-ed for the San Francisco Chronicle, Lorry I. Lokey Graduate School of Business Dean Deborah Merrill-Sands responds to the new book, Lean In, by Sheryl Sandberg. The Facebook COO urges women to participate in leadership roles, but for real efficacy, counters Merrill-Sands, “we need men to ‘lean in’—to join women as allies, advocates, and agents of change.”

At a talk in Greenwich, Connecticut, on April 30, Ladnier explores the experiences of Mills students who corresponded from internment camps with Mills College President Aurelia Henry Reinhardt during World War II.

Khadivi's second novel is part of a planned trilogy about several generations of an Iranian family. Her writing "engenders deep sympathy for the miseries experienced by forced migrants."
